So there was an article a few weeks ago about how proper southern biscuits have to be made with a SOFT wheat flour rather than a hard wheat like bread flour, and how White Lily is the best brand for that, but it's only sold in the South.

I was kind of "I have no opinion on this, I've never had biscuits that I liked" but I was curious based on the descriptions. And I live in Florida now, and White Lily flour is readily available. And I do understand the difference between soft and hard wheat flours and what those do to baked goods.

AS IT TURNS OUT! I like biscuits now! I didn't really before? These are GOOD though.

And I'm dipping them in my curry, because reasons.

Fiction is important in trauma recovery.

Sometimes empathizing with a character, and crying for them, is the only way you know to cry for yourself. Because if what happened to them was WRONG, then it was surely wrong when it happened to you, too.

Even when the whispers of people in your past tell you that it was your fault and you deserved it and it wouldn’t have happened if you’d just done what they wanted, reading about a character who you know was only doing their best in an impossible situation, and who did not deserve to be hurt that way . . .

Sometimes loving fictional people is the first step to loving yourself.

I have never made meatloaf before! It was, in fact, only after I had Flamethrower’s meatloaf in, like, August, that I found out meatloaf can be GOOD.

I suppose the books started coming out in the 40s, so he could have read them when he was smol.

Just like . . . the Wastelands was published in 1991 and I have to wonder if he saw those and went “That’s fucked up. Oh! Hey, I know how I can make it MORE fucked up!”

Sometimes something epic happens when I'm reading The Dark Tower and I really just feel robbed of the fact that Idris Elba didn't do the thing on screen, and that they're being stupid and rebooting the movie/tv adaptations.

In this case, something that happens at the end of the Wastelands. (I do not think "the protagonist does something awesome" is a spoiler?)

I WANT TO SEE IDRIS ELBA DO THE THING.

I'm onto Wizard & Glass now.

I’m reading the stupid murder-clown book and it’s all deadcatwithaflamethrower and drougnor ’s fault.

It’s GOOD and ADDICTIVE and I DO NOT READ FAST ENOUGH FOR THIS. I HAVE SURGERY ON TUESDAY. I CAN’T FINISH IT BEFORE THEN, AND THEN I AM GOING TO BE SUPER STONED.

I AM ENJOYING IT VERY MUCH. I AM DISMAYED THAT MY READING SPEED IS NOT WHAT IT ONCE WAS, THOUGH BEING ABLE TO FOCUS ON A BOOK FOR THIS LONG IS A DISTINCT IMPROVEMENT.

However, I can flip them off with both hands and turn the pages on my Kindle with my nose. Kindle is also useful for books that would otherwise be large and unwieldy.

I wonder how often Stephen King gets asked questions about Maine that result in him having to say “No, do NOT do the thing. I wrote books about why you should not do the thing.”

Finished reading Stephen King’s It on Saturday. (I had started in January, but then I had surgery and reading got derailed.)

It was a good book. There was one thing that I was extremely upset about, and I think that it would work differently in a modern AU. You’d really just have to build in another cycle. (That said, I have no interest in seeing the 2017 movie. I trust deadcatwithaflamethrower‘s judgement about such things and she described the changes that were made and I was Displeased.)

Also spent some time sniffling at Seanan McGuire’s song “The Circle We Form”. I am overcome with feels!

I spent most of it wanting to punch the murderclown. A lot. With something sharp. (Also, my phone knows the word “murderclown” now.)

And some of it being grossed out because EW, SQUISHY THINGS. Like, I can totally deal with squishy things if I need to, I’d just need to flail a little bit afterward about IT WAS SO GROSS >_<

I am currently reading The Eyes of the Dragon and I am spending most of it wanting to stab Flagg in every organ in reverse alphabetical order. (Because in alphabetical order “brain” and “heart” come before “penis” or “testicles” and that would be a sadly missed opportunity.)

On the bright side, it is somewhere between 1/3 and ¼ the page count of It, so I’m complaining WAY LESS about my reading speed.

I do not care how many times you say he has blue eyes, Stephen King, I am picturing Idris Elba because he looks epic as fuck in the role.

(I don’t know how this would affect interactions with Detta Walker, but I’m choosing to handwave it.) And I’m pissed that they’re being all stupid and “Oh, no, the next Dark Tower miniseries will be a REBOOT because the movie didn’t do well enough.”

I am grumpy and sort of want to time travel 30 years in the past to beta Stephen King’s stuff for consistency.

In book 2, Eddie’s sister’s name was Selina, in book 3 it’s Gloria. In book 2, Roland bought 200 shells from 1975 New York, in book 3 it says “over 300″.

drougnor says some of these things are resolved, but it’s driving me kind of bugshit.

This is the kind of nitpicky detail beta stuff I am GOOD at and have done for writing friends, and the fact it is WRONG is setting my teeth on edge.

Stephen King, I would have a much easier time not heaving a long, exasperated sigh when you describe the Dark Tower as being “an exclamation point” if you had NOT described someone’s erect penis as being “an exclamation point” both in the book previous to this *AND* in It.

Was poking around at what I’ll read after Talia’s books. (Was leaning toward Elspeth’s books, though I might take a break and switch back to Stephen King for a bit.)

You know, for someone who was VEHEMENTLY anti-fanfiction and slapped people with C&Ds left and right until ~2009, it sure is weird how there are like a dozen anthologies of Valdemar stuffs that contain like one Mercedes Lackey story and the rest are PAID fanfiction by other authors.
